Man Arrested after Hit-and-Run Accident Leaves 62-Year-Old Woman Near 88th Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 17, 2023) – Thursday, police arrested Carlos Mayor after a hit-and-run on Broadway killed Trina Newman-Townsend.
The fatal incident happened on Christmas Eve, at around 3:27 p.m. at Broadway Street and 88th Street, as Newman-Townsend was leaving a South LA shelter after dropping off Christmas gifts.
According to reports, after the involved vehicle struck Newman-Townsend, the driver did not stop to render aid to the victim. Instead, they fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Meanwhile, the impact of the collision left Newman-Townsend with fatal injuries. First responders to the site of the crash declared 62-year-old Trina Newman-Townsend, of Los Angeles, dead at the scene.
On January 5th, LAPD announced that the suspected driver was arrested. He is identified as 55-year-old Carlos Mayor.
Trina Newman-Townsend’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help support the costs of her celebration of life.
