U.S. Department of Commerce
- On May 20, 2022, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended the food additive regulations to no longer provide for the use of 25 plasticizers in various food contact applications because these uses have been abandoned. They are taking this action in response to a food additive petition submitted by the Flexible Vinyl Alliance (FVA or petitioner).
- On May 20, 2022, the FDA is denying a food additive petition (FAP 6B4815) submitted by Natural Resources Defense Council, et al., requesting that we amend or revoke specified regulations to no longer provide for the food contact use of 28 ortho -phthalates. (FDA uses the terms “phthalates” and “ ortho -phthalates” interchangeably in this notification to refer to the subset of phthalates substituted in the “ ortho ” position).
Customs and Border Protection
- On May 17, 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Louisville seized a myriad of items: counterfeit driver’s licenses, counterfeit Apple Air pods and Watches, and counterfeit designer watches with three shipments of designer apparel and medications valued at $3.65 million.
