43-Year-Old Passenger Killed in Suspected DUI Crash near Milepost 24

KITSAP COUNTY, WA (November 14, 2022) – Monday morning, David Ellis was killed and one was arrested after a rollover collision on Highway 16. Around 9:00 a.m., police responded to the scene near milepost 24. Officers say the 53-year-old driver of a 2004 Ford Econoline was heading west on the highway when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned in the center median. The vehicle then came to rest after striking a nearby tree. The passenger, Ellis, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Ford onto the road. Meanwhile, the driver from Spanaway was wearing a restraint and only suffered minor injuries. Medics took him to Tacoma General Hospital for further treatment. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, crews pronounced 43-year-old Ellis dead at the scene. Following preliminary investigations, officers suspect that the driver was under the influence. However, police are still waiting for toxicology reports.
