Hollyshorts Film Festival Showcases Big Names

The HollyShorts Film Festival is underway and it’s anything but short on engaging content. Though it started last week, it runs thru Aug.20, so the 18th annual showcase still has lots to enjoy, with titles either starring or produced by big names in entertainment including Lena Waithe, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Bacon, Colman Domingo, Ed Asner, Wiz Khalifa, Margaret Cho, Penn Badgley, James Franco, Eric Roberts, Danny Trejo and many more. According to the organizers, this year more than 160 directors in the fest are female and over 100 are BIPOC, plus there’s dozens of queer titles too, so you’re sure to see works from all walks of life and points of view. Genres include documentary, drama, comedy and horror. The latter has some really intriguing stuff and there’s no less than 67 shorts in the creepy category including  Sam Max’s Chaperone starring Zachary Quinto, Thomas Simon’s Bowlhead starring John Hursley, Brian Sepanzyk’s In The Shadow Of God starring Sara Canning, Alexandra Magistro’s Love You Mama starring Samantha Soyan, Eli Powers’ Skin And Bone starring Amanda Seyfried, and Evan Miller’s Thoughts And Prayers starring Zachary Levi, to name a few. HollyShorts’ has become popular with filmmakers for both the exposure and opportunities it provides, with the three top prizes in the film competition earning eligibility for a nomination at the 2023 Oscars®. Last year, six HollyShorts titles got nods and two took home gold statues. Who will emerge victorious this year? Hop into Holly in –where else?– Hollywood to see the selections and choose your favorites. The fest also offers panels, networking events and parties (awards gala is on Aug. 20), and most films can also be seen virtually through the streaming platform BITPIX. Full official selections list at hollyshorts.com/official_selections_2022.  At the TLC Chinese Theatres, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. 3rd Level, Hollywood.
