National Rum Day and A Ghostbar In Vegas – Here’s What’s Popping Up


Named after the Tay Ho District located in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi, Family Business Director Vivian Yenson will open Tay Ho Restaurant Chino Hills, her second Vietnamese restaurant  on Saturday, Aug. 13. The Grand Opening will include  a full day of giveaways, like 100 complimentary entrées, 100 BOGO complimentary entrées, 100 complimentary drinks, and a chance to win a 50-inch flat-screen TV, Nintendo Switch, and Apple AirPods Pro, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dwayne Johnson’s ZOA Energy will bring a free pop-up beach activation to the Venice Beach Skatepark on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sample the newly released LTO Cherry Limeade Zero Sugar, test your balance in a surfboard challenge, and snap a photo next to a life-size sand sculpture of Johnson.

Gracias Madre is kicking off the release of its new cookbook, with a fun-filled launch party together with Now Serving, on Sunday, Aug. 14. The Gracias Madre Cookbook features menu favorites from the iconic Los Angeles restaurant, known for its organic, plant-based Cali-Mexican dishes. The Gracias Madre Cookbook launch takes place  at the West Hollywood location from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will feature dishes from the cookbook, summer cocktails, a cocktail demo by Beverage Director Maxwell Reis, and a copy of the cookbook. The $50 per person event includes a welcome cocktail, plant-based passed bites, demo, cookbook, and a $25 gift card that can be used the same day (stay for drinks or dinner) or on a future visit.

Vegas Watch: From the Red Rocks to the west to Downtown Las Vegas in the north to the sparkling strip in the east to the new Allegiant Stadium in the south, there is no point in the city that is not visible from the newly reopened Ghostbar at the Palms Casino Resort. The sky-high indoor/outdoor deck off the beaten path features live entertainment, music and dancing. On the ground level of the newly renovated resort is the Scotch 80 restaurant, which has reopened in the same space but with new menu options and culinary team, and just launched a one-of-a-kind wagyu/Kobe beef menu, as well. 

Tuesday, Aug. 16 is National Rum Day and the Fairmont Century Plaza will celebrate a Havana Night in the lobby bar, featuring a live Cuban band and dancers, cigar-rolling, and rum cocktails including a rum tasting, signature frozen Pina Colada, Strawberry Daiquiris, and Cuban-inspired menu items.
