Head-On Crash near Whiskeytown Lake Resulted in Fatality
REDDING, CA (August 23, 2022) – On Thursday afternoon, one person died after a traffic collision on Highway 299, police said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred near Whiskeytown Recreation Center, in the area of Kennedy Memorial Drive.
Investigators said a red Ford Explorer collided head-on with a semi-truck, causing the SUV to spin out of control.
Furthermore, the big rig started to catch on fire and burned 35 acres of nearby vegetation.
Unfortunately, responding officials declared the Ford SUV driver dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, however, sustained minor injuries.
Moreover, a large portion of the area was temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
At this time, Redding Officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the Highway 299 traffic accident.
