To the bewilderment of Samuel Onuha, people will often, for whatever reason, try to discourage you from doing what you want to do. As soon as you step outside the normal and declare your belief in the special purpose of your life, you will attract no-sayers.
As is evident from the name, a no-sayer will always say ‘no’ to any of your ideas or dreams without offering in return any constructive ideas about how you should go about realizing them. While some of these no-sayers may be people who are close to you, you must not let that be the reason for them stopping you from going after what you want in life.
Samuel Onuha reminds you of what Nelson Mandela had to say about chasing dreams that no sayers discourage you about, “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” and offers these four tips to help you in times when the resistance from no sayers gets too much:
- Distance Yourself from the No Sayers
Identify the no-sayers in your life and slowly distance yourself from them. However, warns Samuel Onuha, be careful not to go about labeling even those among your friends or family who offer you sensible and pertinent advice, as no-sayers.
- Surround Yourself with Positive People
It is a commonly held belief that you are as good or bad as the company you keep. Surround yourself with negative people ready to pull you down at the first instance, and the chances are that you will turn out to be full of negativity as well. But when you are in the company of go-getters who do not hesitate to go after their dreams, you will do the same.
- Fight Your Own Inner No-sayer
Sometimes, without even realizing it, you might turn out to be your own worst no-sayer. Our inner no-sayer, explains Samuel Onuha, is the voice that keeps telling us that we are not good enough or intelligent enough to do it. Stop listening to your inner voice if it amplifies nothing but your fears and doubts.
- Do Not Be Afraid to Fail
Banish success or failure from existence; they are nothing but hopes or fears in your mind. Samuel Onuha would like you to focus on the work you need to do to bring what you want from your life to fruition.
Once you stop thinking about the results, it becomes easier to get over your fears of failure. Do not be afraid to fail so that you can continue to learn from your mistakes and eventually succeed spectacularly.
