22-Year-Old Man Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident near Interstate 8
EL CAJON, CA (August 1, 2022) – Wednesday evening, a DUI hit-and-run crash on North Second Street claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman.
The incident happened at around 8:49 p.m., near the 600 block of North Second Street.
According to police, a woman was walking northbound on Second Street, when a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 22-year-old man, struck her. The woman was thrown onto the road near the on-ramp to Interstate 8.
The driver of the Sonata then continued driving, crashing into a traffic signal and a street sign before stopping on Naranca Avenue, where police later found him
Upon arriving, El Cajon officials rendered first aid to the victim and transported her to Sharp Memorial Hospital. However, despite life-saving efforts, the victim passed away. Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, El Cajon Police booked the driver of the Sonata to San Diego County Jail for multiple charges.
